The River Spey has created a succession of habitats, including bare shingle, coastal grasslands, brackish saltmarsh and wet woodland.
Spey Bay is a beautiful Scottish Wildlife Trust coastal nature reserve with the largest shingle beach in Scotland.

“Coastal Bird Walk, my wife and I pre-booked this tour for our visit to Scotland as an introduction to the wildlife of the area. Our guide was the knowledgeable and enthusiastic Sara-Jane, who took us through various habitats around Spey Bay. We saw a good array of birds and even a seal in the estuary. A halfway refreshment break was a nice touch. The walk and engagement with Sara-Jane made the walk very enjoyable, so much so that the 2 hours seemed to fly by.
We would certainly recommend using Wild Alba Tours, the local knowledge of the guide was priceless in getting us to places we probably would have missed without their guidance and bird species we would have missed or been unable to identify.
Many thanks to Sara-Jane for a very enjoyable morning.”
